Never would I have thought that I would want to learn how to fail forward. These words have not been in the forefront of my mind. I just finished reading the book Failing Forward by John C. Maxwell and wow! Did I ever learn a lot from it.
A new awareness came to me on the style of what a good author/book mean to me. When an author can tell a story by leading with an example, it all flows so nicely that you can't help but want to learn more. With Failing Forward it is exactly what it offered me in my reading experience.
Learning the different struggles a business owner has and how they utlize the moments of failure into success. How no matter what the road bump is these stories shared how determination and self belief can rise to the occasion. Take the well known cosmetics/ multilevel marketing from Mary Kay Ash of Mary Kay. She worked along side with her husband to make it all happen until he passed away from cancer. She could have decided to close her business yet instead she choose to thrive and push forward with it. Guess what happened? She became a multi-millionaire.
I remember growing up having neighbours who were sales associates of Mary Kay. They enjoyed the product, enjoyed selling it, and enjoyed the rewards it gave them. Mary Kay Ash wanted to empower women, and so she did. That made me think of my own personal business struggles and feel empowered by her story. No I am not creating a multi-level marketing business. Yet the principals are there. To be a self employed business woman who relieves the stress of business owners and empowers them to keep going.
Isn't that what we all want to some extent? That is what one of the lessons I learnt from this book gave me. Along with countless stories of how people failed forward and succeeded. They all followed the principals below to crate the abundance they desired to be of service in this world.
The 15 steps to failing forward: #1 Realize there's one major difference between average people and achieving people.
#4 Take action and reduce your fear.
#5 Change your response to failure by accepting responsibility.
#6 Don't let failure from outside get inside of you.
#7 Say goodbye to yesterday.
#8 Change yourself and your world changes.
#9 Get over yourself and start giving yourself.
#10 Find the benefit in every bad experience.
#11 If at first you do succeed, try something harder.
#12 Learn from a bad experience and make it a good experience.
#13 Work on the weakness that we can chew.
#14 Understand, there's not much difference between failure and success.
#15 Get up, get over it and get going.
When I read the 15 steps back I notice that it is to be mindful of your thoughts, your actions, your words and your willingness to move forward.
Only you hold the keys to success in your business to create the life you desire.
Only you can make the choice to fail forward, or give up.
I know running a business has it's open source of challenges. Yet when you allow yourself to make an investment to hiring the right people, you will get yourself there.
Thinking strategically with an open heart is all it takes.
Can you see areas in this book where you can improve? Maybe there are some you can celebrate yourself for!
Whichever may be, just know that it is worth the time and energy to be that beautiful change the world needs.
